COMMENTS FROM PAST STUDENTS

LIZA

I served my articles from January 2006 to December 2007 at Venn Nemeth & Hart Inc. Coming from Durban I arrived here not knowing a soul. In a matter of minutes I was made to feel welcome and at home. VNH has an incredibly warm and friendly working environment. It is obviously a formal, professional setting but everyone is open and willing to help.

I spent one year in litigation and one year in property. Over these 2 years I have gain a vast amount of knowledge and experience in a broad range of work from divorce and custody matters to foreclosures to insolvency to domestic violence to criminal work to conveyancing and notarial work and property development work.

The highlights of my articles have been the people that I have met in the firm and in Pietermaritzburg as well as many of the experiences I have had including travelling to Johannesburg to sign up clients for a development in Newtown and even spending some time at the site.

The firm has allowed me and encouraged me to push myself and expand my own qualifications and I was given the opportunity to complete my conveyancing and notarial examinations over and above my attorneys board exams.

I would recommend applying for articles at VNH to anyone who is hardworking, dedicated and a well-rounded person. Your years spent here will be absorbing knowledge from some of the most experienced and sought after people in our profession while at the same time becoming part of a wonderful team of people.

HIRESEN

I have just completed my first year of articles with Venn Nemeth and Hart, a year which was immensely rewarding for me.

Perhaps the first thing that strikes you as a bright eyed, fresh-out-of-varsity graduate at Venn Nemeth and Hart is the atmosphere prevalent within the firm. The staff, both administrative and professional are friendly, approachable and work with amazing synergy. The firm does not adopt a stringent hierarchical approach to everyday affairs and everyone interacts from a largely equal footing. The cliché of being a “family” really does work here.

But having said this, undoubtedly the aspect that I, as a clerk, have appreciated the most is the balance within the firm. While law is our game and we play it hard, the social aspect is never cast aside. On a regular basis, we have events ranging from our often-held Boardroom drinks to adventure relays and even dressing up in medieval attire for our year-end Christmas party this year.

Another crucial aspect to me is that Venn Nemeth and Hart offer the best of both worlds. While being one of the major players in the South African legal industry, you don’t find yourself becoming a ‘number’ within the firm and your progress and development is constantly monitored and encouraged.

I could go on, but then again why don’t you send in your application and find out for yourself what Venn Nemeth and Hart has to offer.
